To Suit

To Suit began with David Attenborough.
It became something else entirely.

The work explores the absurdity, beauty and risk of ‘courting’, drawing parallels between the behaviours of birds and human beings to unpick expectations of gender normativity within relationships.

Alys and Annie sing and dance - and Annie wears a fabulous dress.

Premiering in 2015, To Suit developed over 4 years through an ongoing process of revisiting and touring across theatres, pubs and site-responsive contexts, and became a regular meeting point for Lizzie and collaborators Alys and Annie to reflect on and through their own changing experiences of dating, sex and relationships.

They are human but recognisably bird, the two blending into each other, illuminating the convergences between the species and, perhaps, showing ourselves to ourselves.
